Kanoyama
Kanoyama is great because it’s a very versatile spot. You can go for just a casual sushi dinner or you can go drop $400 on a 15 course Omakase with Nobuson. The sushi quality is actually good here and I like to call this sort of place “clean sushi” meaning they don’t do rolls with stuff like spicy crunch or cream cheese in them. You get sashimi and pretty basic rolls and that’s that. I had originally tried this spot before I knew about their Omakase in the back of the restauraunt. My first impression was EH, its good but ive definitely had better. The place is very brightly lit and a little overpriced for what you get. However, ironically enough everytime I went to Sushi by Bou we talked of our love of Omakase and I would ask time and again his favorite spot in the city and he and a sushi chef there said we HAD to try the Omakase with chef Nobuson at Kanoyama.. so obviously I did. It was fantastic. 16 courses of clean sushi, every piece divine. Go here with a fellow sushi lover and make sure to ask for nobuson.
